WHO'S AFRAID OF SUBMARINE
Stefano Greek

Among the many acts of "maquillage" a planned urban turin in the Winter Olympics of 2006, also includes the deletion from the wall of the building in Via Verdi - C.so San Maurizio, a mural depicting a submarine. The destruction of that image, became a full-time law in a trace of historical memory of the city, was certainly not a random choice. That submarine, built 20 years ago by a young punk writer, in his playful impertinence, was perhaps in the minds of administrators diligent citizens, an intolerable symbol of rebellion and a terrible threat.
This episode, also attributable to a good dose of arrogance and stupidity and certainly insignificant compared to other more serious problems that those of the bleak future of Turin, becomes the key metaphor of this new photo project.
"If one does not rebel against it disappears" is a chronicle of some of the most significant events of political life in recent years (2005-2009). Snapshots of life and daily struggle that are based upon the youth, students, political parties and movements of the Left and of the antagonist in Turin.
Like the book "The Great Dream," published in 2007, told through a series of images of political events, culture and everyday life of young people in the '70s, this new work suggests, almost 40 years later, a essential insight of experience and contemporary social transformations taking place in the urban fabric that outline the image of the "new" city. Are revealed, among thousands of faces, social customs and daily activities, the new landscapes of Turin projected into the new century and new millennium. These new images

Un futuro di incertezze e scarse garanzie not only employment but also for the quality and safety of work itself. Even the dramatic story of the Thyssen-Krupp is emerging as a signal too obvious a clear decline. We could, with all my deep respect for the seven victims of the infamous massacre, euphemistically described as "a sign of the times."
Capitalism as ever in recent years has laid bare his contradictions, denouncing his alleged total failure as the only possible economic model. The cracks of the system have become increasingly dilated, becoming chasms that have engulfed the real world. The house of cards of various "creative economies" have become a huge disaster that has engulfed lo stesso meccanismo generatore.
It 's a historic and unprecedented political phenomenon, a deep wound still open for the lack of responsiveness and a plan to relaunch; feuds and struggles between the Left, in complete paralysis, is fragmented into laughable self reality without strategies and practical perspectives, exposing them to serious risk of self-destruction. Marco Revelli writes about "the tragedy of our time is that there is no discourse that can reopen a common future survival against the idea of \u200b\u200bthe current conflict. Today on the Left do not see anyone working for this, they are all busy collect scrap from the floor of their identity or build new ones and then possibly use them as clubs over the heads of their neighbors. "

the limelight of the Turin urban setting overlooking the old and new political actors and especially new social identities. A 'new feature is particularly evident in the new immigration: workplaces, schools, public buildings, neighborhoods, squares, streets, parades and events are increasingly characterized by an increasing presence of women and men who have transformed in recent decades the face of Turin in a multiethnic and multicultural reality.
But the undisputed star is always true that "magma" in constant motion that embodies the hundred galaxies del'universo youth, again in the limelight with the struggles of students. Forty years on from 68 still represent perhaps the only irreducible opposite contrast active against attempts at restoration in society. Yet they are the vanguard of opposition movements, a generation destined to fight a new struggle of resistance against the new and old Moloch represented by rampant right-wing governments

We wish to express my sincere thanks to all those who, for various reasons, have collaborated on this book, particularly to Antonino Di Giorgio creator of the title, a phrase that represents extraordinary synthesis with the sense of this time, the young photographer Fabrizio Federico Chicoli and Greek and "evergreen" and Gigi Galli Letizia Pizzutto. We also thank all the authors of the texts, starting from its political and cultural experience, have helped to tell this short but intense stretch of our time.
This book is the result of a biased and partisan pride, a story made up of places but most of the faces of many people who animate this in mind, men and women who grow and share the idea to make stubborn and tenacious forward with a daily Another Great Dream.
